Both parties seem to be engaging in the politics of self-destruction. And, while I'll admit that I'm selfishly glad that the Republicans seem to be imploding, I'm shocked at the rhetoric that's been emerging: Secede!; "if we cannot win in the ballot, we'll turn to bullets!" My point being that we need to get our butts in gear and push for change...fast! However, I also realize--with a bit of despair--that a vast swath of our country is uninformed, is very willing to be spoon fed whatever drivel the media (or certain talk show hosts) puts forth, and will not exert the smallest bit of energy to think for themselves. If, and it's a big if, we can, as you say, reach a point where "our viewpoint has permeated the culture", we may have a chance; however, it's probably more realistic to realize that we may have to wait for them to die off--and hope they haven't passed those traits off to their children. {sigh}

By the way, a good read is the book "Bad Money' by Kevin Phillips. (http://www.latimes.com/features/books/la-et-rutten16apr16,0,4337030.story) I had to struggle at times to get through it because it...made...me...so...angry.
